One voice among the brilliance
I think I should quit blogging right now…
Why? Because this week has been quite a momentous one. I think we should take these in reverse order of momentous magnitude…
Number three: today is the “official” first birthday of The Blog Up North!
14th January 2010 saw the first published post of the all new, relaunched, revitalised BUN. I had a few stuttering mutterings to my name prior to that day, but these have been quite rightly locked in a room and the room set on fire. January 14th 2010 is day one, from which day forth I have blogged consistently (in effort if not in quality) for one whole year. Wow. These milestones are important, of course. Kerry at And Then All I Thought About Was You… is also celebrating one year of blogging so congrats to her and anyone else who has a blogoversary!
Number two: I had a guest post featured on the British Mummy Bloggers blog!
It had taken me almost a whole year to join this community of nearly 2,000 parent bloggers. Truth be known, I like to play hard to get. I’m joking, of course. If you read my guest post on the subject of being a dad blogger in a mummy-centric blogoverse, you’ll gather I considered myself a tentative, fringe member of the parent blogger community. It is great to be a member of BMB, and I was honoured to be asked by founders Jennifer and Susanna to contribute a post. If you want to know what me being honoured looked like it was: “oh my god, f*ck, f*ck, f*ck! What am I going to write??”
Number one: My blog won a Brilliance in Blogging Award!
I was suprised to find I had been nominated. I was then shocked to learn people were actually voting for me. I was therefore stunned when I found out I was one of five Fresh Voice of 2010 winners out of a field of 21. And it was a heck of a good field too. To be considered worthy of inclusion alongside all my fellow nominees knocks my socks off. This award is so special because it comes from bloggers like me, who know what it’s like to externalise ourselves to a fond but distant readership. For such a resounding echo of approval to come back is truly an amazing and humbling experience.
So there you have it. What better way to cap a year of serious blogging? My only disappointment was the lack of a physical awards ceremony. I would have hired a tux. I look good in a tux. Okay, every bloke looks good in a tux, but I don’t get to dress up any more, yanno…?
But seriously, I’m incredibly chuffed that so many of you have taken to The Blog Up North in the past year. As fresh as it is, my voice in the blogosphere is but one among thousands of brilliant, funny, erudite, captivating and creative online enthusiasts. Brilliant bloggers all.

I think, in this instance, you shouldn’t quit whilst you’re ahead but tally forth until the #BMB members kick you out. Happy Birthday and hearty congratulations on your successes x
here here. i still think it should be renamed BMADB.
umm, perhaps that’s not the message they’re trying to get across…..
Well done!

I agree, it’s a massive standard to keep up. Quit whilst you’re ahead.
NOT!!!
Well done, Garry. A fab week for you. Well deserved, mate.
Firstly, congratulations on the award, the blogoversary and the guest post! You deserve all the good things that have come your way this week and I’m so pleased for you.
Secondly, thank you. For all the posts that have made me laugh or made me stop and think. For the occasional mentions that I’ve had. For allowing me to inhabit your blogspace with a few guest posts. For getting me started in blogging. For all the support, advice and feedback that you’ve given me which helped me do that. For putting up with the essays I write in your comments.
I knew you on twitter before you started this blog. After a year of reading it, I feel I know you better than most of my real life friends.
And finally…. HUN in a tux? *swoon* …..
Heartfelt congratulations on your award – thoroughly well deserved!
I always enjoy reading your posts – they are well written, thought-provoking and always on genuinely interesting subjects. I love how you can do light-hearted stuff (quizzes!!) just as well as the deep and meaningful things.
Are there any plans for a few celebratory drinks? I think you should wear a tux (swoon!) all weekend – even if there is no formal ceremony!
Well deserved, and very well done!
Look, I like your blog enough that I’m checking up on it for updates from blooming France. Do I get a little medal for dedication? Hahaha.
Happy Blogoversary!!!! Sure you’ll have an even better second year.
*Applauds enthusiastically* Very well done you!
I’m new to your blog but congrats on all the achievements and I shall now go and peruse your blog in more detail to find out what I’ve been missing.
Very well deserved! I think you should get an award for surviving in the mummy blogging world too! Only joking. *poke*
Many a true word spoken in jest
You’re very wise and very correct, Rosie LOL
What a fab post! I was so glad you won the award, you totally deserve it!
