Let’s Shuffle!

January 30, 2012

Music is full of shuffles. Harlem Shuffle, Lido Shuffle, Resurrection Shuffle, The Wall Street Shuffle… the list goes on!*

* Can you name the artists who did those “Shuffles” without looking it up?

Nowadays it is the “in thing” to shuffle, mixing up the hundreds of tunes on our iPods or other music players so we can feign surprise at the next track even though we put the damn things on there in the first place, a bit like a kitten “finding” a piece of string it left behind a cushion.

Personally I never shuffle my music but for Music Monday I’m making an exception. Nickie from I Am Typecast shared a five-song shuffle of her music player, following the lead of Clare from Seasider in the City and a cast of several others. My choices are below, with screenshots from my phone (the observant will note the tell-tale time shows I didn’t listen to them, just skipped) accompanied by said tracks on Soundcloud for you to enjoy.

1. AC/DC: The Razor’s Edge (Live)

2, Yes: Cinema

3. Pretty Lights: Total Fascination

4. Royworld: The Man in the Machine

5. Ron Sexsmith: Nowadays

Now it’s your turn. I’m not tagging anyone in particular, but opening the comments. Put your music player on shuffle and list the first five songs it plays. Don’t be shy, don’t be embarrassed and DON’T CHEAT! I look forward to checking out your picks.

    Oh dear! Here goes:
    1) Pixie Lott – What Do You Take Me For?
    2) Amy Winehouse – What Is It About Men?
    3) Florence & The Machine – What The Water Gave Me
    4) The Stone Roses – The World Is Waiting
    5) The Cranberries – When You’re Gone

(Phew, at least no backstreet boys came up in the first five today! :-) )

I don’t recognise one single song there but will be listening later – hoping to find some new choices for me to download!

Ah, Ron Sexsmith. Like him. :-)

I’d never heard of Pretty Lights until I saw them on your music tweets. And I hadn’t heard the Yes track either, which is odd cos I like them too.

Awesome meme, but I have never heard of any of those. Does that make me seriously uncool or you a bit ‘edgy’?

Ok you asked for it and it’s not all pretty:
    Abba – I have a dream
    Aha – Take on Me
Gene – I love you, what are you?
    Lighthouse Family – Lifted
Suzuki Piano School – Twinkle Twinkle Little Star

My iPod behaved much better on my own post :D

Love this meme! Right here goes:

    1) Love in the first degree – Bananarama (not lying, it honestly was)
    2) Best of you – Foo Fighters
    3) Stronger than me – Amy Winehouse (her first album is my fave)
    4) Hold On – Razorlight
    5) We used to Vacation – Cold War Kids.

It could have been worse. I have a cheese fest on my pod. Plus some garage. Re-ee-wind when the crowd says Bo!

2)Black Stone Cherry – Crosstown Woman
3)Washed Out – Life of Leisure
    4)Feist – Caught a Long Wind
    5)Megadeth – Hanger 18.

    I don’t think that’s too shameful!
