Twitter? I’m ova it…

February 4, 2012

Today is a first for The Blog Up North. This is the first crowdsourced (should that be one word, two words or hyphenated?) blog post. I asked and you delivered. Some of you. The best ones.

Who can possibly say why I took a picture of some egg cups yesterday lunchtime?

They were there, they were mildly amusing. I shot them and tweeted them – I guess there is a tenuous link betweet Twitter and eggs – and asked if anyone else had funny egg cups they wanted to tweet. That was tongue in cheek. But guess what happened…

Hover over them and the tweeter’s name will become apparent. Click on them and they grow. Cool, huh?

Yes, it’s silly and apropos of absolutely nothing, but shows what fun can be had in the spirit of the Twitter community.

What’s next? TV remotes? Cheese? Stay tuned to @himupnorth and find out…

What delightful silliness HUN! I missed the tweet but it’s great to see these! Clever chap!

    Eggxcellent! (sorry)

Love it and I look forward to the next one. I have a confession to make though – I saw your Tweet yesterday and went to get O’s sheep-shaped egg cup out of the cupboard to take a photo of it and send to you. Before I got round to sending my Tweet though I checked out some of the other pics and an emotion I have never felt arose from within me – I got ‘egg cup envy’. I therefore abandoned sending my Tweet as I just didn’t feel my egg cup was up to scratch compared to some of the others on show. I have since spoken to some people and have finally come to terms with the fact that sometimes in life, like with egg cups, people are just going to be better than you. I’m over it, roll on the next one. I do hope it’s toast racks though as I have quite a good one of those.

I feel your pain Musodad, although I posted my egg cup before I checked the others out. Some superb egg cups there, egg cup envy here too! Roll on the next bit of silliness :)

Oh the possibilities for Twitter-generated blog posts are endless. Silly? Yes. Pointless, probably. But fun? Definitely…

Musodad – please post your eggcup picture. There is no need to feel inferior. I am pondering whether indeed your eggcup is actually so special that you are holding it back for fear of upsetting eggcup owners the world over…

Reblogged this on highonahill and commented:
A perfect example of why I love Twitter… a random tweet about eggcups generated a entire blog post featuring a collection of eggcup pictures.

My Sooty eggcup is featured in this post – it actually belonged to Mother of Mine when she was a child in the 1960s. Twitter even put me in touch with a tweep who has one very similar, somewhere in her loft – it makes me wonder how many more Sooty eggcups there are out there and whether anybody have one featuring Sweep?

Oh, I was away from my laptop most of Saturday and missed this! We used to have some crackers but I fear some of them might have been chucked out when we had a kitchen clearout last month. We had an R2D2 one, a Thomas the Tank Engine one and a Makka Pakka one at one stage!

No names appear when I hover which is a bitter disappointment. But I enjoyed looking at the egg cups. I have no idea how you tweet pictures, but I eat my boiled eggs out of a ceramic sheep because my husband broke all of my genteel willow pattern cups. I should like you to do a pictorial cyber survey of bathroom light switch pulls. Ours is a creme brulee hammer that a shopkeeper threw in as a job lot with a coal scuttle.

Postman Pat’s van is my favourite. Kate, how could you throw out an R2D2 egg cup?! That’d be amazing! I also confess, no-one has ever used the motorbike one. I just couldn’t put it in the bin. I think actually, we may have grown cress in it last summer.
